Cornhill House joins the Manorview fold

Popular wedding venue and hotel Cornhill House in Biggar has been purchased by independent Scottish hotel and leisure group, Manorview Hotels.

Located in ten acres of countryside, the nine bedroom hotel, 26 miles from Edinburgh and 32 miles from Glasgow, will be renamed Cornhill Castle and will continue to provide the perfect location for weddings, special occasions and relaxing breaks.

Manorview Hotels & Leisure Group is a family run business with over 350 employees, 145 bedrooms, 8 restaurants and bars. Established in 2007, Manorview Hotels currently has seven luxury boutique hotels across the central belt of Scotland: The Bowfield Hotel & Country Club, Howwood, The Busby Hotel, Clarkston, The Commercial Hotel, Wishaw, The Lynnhurst Hotel, Johnstone,The Redhurst Hotel, Giffnock, The Torrance Hotel, East Kilbride and Boclair House Hotel, Bearsden.

Commenting Steve Graham, Managing Director, Manorview Hotels & Leisure Group said “We’re delighted to have purchased Cornhill Castle. It’s a really special place, with an interesting history and located in beautiful surroundings.

“As a group we are continually growing our portfolio. We are a customer-focused business, customer service and attention to detail is at the heart of the business. Our team is looking forward to welcoming hotel guests and creating really special wedding celebrations for our Cornhill Castle brides and grooms.”

Did You Know.... Cornhill Estate, with its original mansion house, was acquired in the 1860s by Alexander Kay, a wealthy East India merchant,  whose business was based on the River Clyde in Glasgow.  The new owner appointed renowned architect William Leiper to rebuild the house.  Leiper would go on to become one of Scotland’s most respected archtitects who later designed the famous Doges Palace on Glasgow Green.

For the Cornhill Estate Leiper designed a French Renaissance Period Chateau, built entirely of light coloured freestone with rich carving on the exterior. In 1998 Cornhill House was transformed into a hotel. The main rooms of the house have beautiful views across the upper River Clyde and against the backdrop of TInto Hills.

In 2008 the Ballroom Suite was added – the new suite has a permanent stage and large conservatory and a wedding pavilion – the perfect location for weddings and special occasions.
