At The Fountain Bar, they are committed to being family friendly and all children are most welcome. With the launch of their new family orientated menus and activities, not only are there yummy dining options, but bonding and entertainment all under one roof. By offering a range of activities meant to encourage and stimulate your kid's minds, not just distract, you can relax, eat, drink and be merry at this venue!

Once your little one has chosen from the delicious new children's menu (with dishes such as Wizard's Fish & Chips and Pirate's Sausage & Mash), you can pick from the extensive selection of activities: Kid's Activity Pack with drawing, puzzles, stickers and crayons; Mini DVD Player with headphones and a selection of U DVDs, Toy Chest with Duplo and mini figures to stimulate their imaginations, Wipe Clean drawing boards, easy learning books including firm favourites like Peppa Pig, dinosaurs and animals, as well as a Tomy Mega Sketcher.

Louise Maclean, Signature Pubs explains the new changes at The Fountain:

"We planned the new kid's menu around dishes and foods we knew our own children liked to eat and made it fun while still being good, nutritious food. We added a kid's activity menu too to keep them entertained while their parents can relax over a leisurely and delicious pub lunch!"

Furthermore, The Fountain is the ideal place for those after school meetings or weekend play dates. Maw-Dras and Paw-Padoms at The Raj, Edinburgh

Written by

Maw Bhuna!

Things are heating up in Blackhall this February. Tommy Miah’s Raj Restaurant is launching its very own Curry Club with the help of Scotland’s favourite family, The Broons.

The unique evening, taking place on February 2nd, will offer up an evening of entertainment and food, with recipes straight from ‘Maw Broon’s Cookbook’, the massively successful cookbook from Scotland’s favourite matriarch. The dishes will, of course, have a distinctly Indian twist – after all, the cooking will be under the apt guidance of Scotland’s Curry King, Tommy Miah.

The lively evening will have a terrific music backdrop with selected tracks from The Broons CDs and a guest appearance from Paw Broon behind the turntable. The Raj, located in Edinburgh’s Blackhall will be transformed for the evening; with tartan tablecloths, Broons memorabilia and much more.

Did You Know

Following a successful 30 years in Leith, The Raj has relocated to Blackhall, Edinburgh. At The Raj you can expect extraordinary tastes and flavours usually found in the palaces and high-homes of India and Bangladesh. The skilled chefs bring the cultures that have come together in Bombay — the Goans, Bengalis, Gujerafis, Mughals and Portuguese — for you now to relish in Edinburgh. Back in 1986, the Raj restaurant was created around the idea of bringing the cuisine of the great city to Edinburgh. Today, The Raj’s menus reflect this ongoing exploration featuring the freshest seafood, chicken, and lamb, as well as plenty to please vegetarian palates. Their menus feature a wide variety of cooking techniques, from slow cooked curries to grills and kebabs as well as tandoori from the clay oven.

Stuff Turkey this Christmas

The traditional turkey dinner at Christmas is ever more becoming a thing of the past. Yet many Brits fear changing the bird for something else, because, what else can you eat at Christmas?

Ben Mailer, Head Chef at the two AA Rosette Award Winning Restaurant at The Four Seasons Hotel in St Fillans, thinks there are many turkey replacements, perfect for being the centre piece of your Christmas dinner this year.

Game meats are something so traditional and indigenous to Britain, yet something that many have never tried. If you’re only feeding a few mouths this Christmas, roasted pheasant is perfect. Being smaller than turkey, you can avoid a copious amount of leftovers but still enjoy a rich, delicious meat.

If you want to be more obviously festive, then partridge is perfect. Tender and full of flavour, you’ll be wishing you had Twelve Days of Christmas to eat this.

Venison is a great choice if you want to avoid birds all together this year but want something a bit more ‘wow’ than beef. How about a venison wellington? It’s a great way to disguise the meat from fussy eaters and you can do most of the preparation on Christmas Eve.

If you’re hosting more than a few guests this year and feel like putting on a grand show, there’s nothing more breath-taking than a whole suckling pig. This isn’t as hard to prepare and cook as you might think, making it a surprisingly easy and delicious meat. A word of warning, a whole pig may not fit in most traditional ovens so don’t be afraid to cut it in half and re-join later or serve halved at either end of the table.

Don’t worry if you’re vegetarian, there are plenty of delicious dishes you can make that aren’t nut roast. Why not try a whole spiced roasted cauliflower?  This is a great dish if you still want the pleasure of carving up your meal at Christmas.

So this year, don’t be afraid to stuff the turkey and try something a bit different. If it goes wrong, there’s always next year!
