Isle of Canna
If you are heading to the Scottish Isles be sure to check out Canna – it is one of the least known of the smaller islands but well worth a visit.
Canna is situated on the Inner Hebrides along with Muck Eigg and Rum. To get there you sail from the port of Mallaig on the Scottish mainland – check out www.calmac.co.uk
We came across this wonderful website with some glorious photos of Canna
An island we have still to visit – be there soon!!
Also check out the National Trust for Scotland website for more information
Isle of Lewis
The Island of Lewis has been named the “best in Europe” by visitors to Trip Advisor’s website. (Harris was also given the same status). With beautiful sandy beaches and unspoiled scenery we can understand why!
Lewis is at the North West point of the group of islands called the Outer Hebrides. Check out the map on our Contact page. The most direct route from the mainland is on a Caledonian MacBrayne ferry from Ullapool to the capital of Lewis - Stornoway. Or you can “Island Hop” – see http://www.calmac.co.uk.
The inhabitants of Lewis are proud of their history and culture. Places to visit include the Arnol Blackhouse; Calanais Standing Stones and so much more. Gaelic is spoken by the islanders as well as English. To this day, peat is still cut to heat island homes.
The photograph was taken by the producers of the short film 'T i d e' - an ambitious short drama film starring Gary Lewis (Gangs of New York, Billy Elliot) set recently on the Scottish Isle of Lewis. More photos and videos on https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/tide-a-scottish-short-film#activity
Check out the following website - there is plenty to do and see on Lewis. A must place to visit!
